the happenings

(pictures, compliments of my mom)

We had such a restful Sunday afternoon with family.  For those of you who do not know I have two older brothers, and one younger sister.  My oldest brother is Scott.  He lives about twenty minutes from my parents in an apartment.  The next brother is Tim.  Tim and his wife, Beth, have Annette and a child on the way.  They live about five minutes from my parents.  My younger sister Sarah is a junior at high school, and obviously still lives at home.  Though all of my siblings do not all go to the same church, my family still gets together on Sunday for lunch and the afternoon.  It makes it extra nice for me when I come home.  I understand this is not a privilege that every family has, to be able to see all of their immediate family in one place.  I get to see all of my siblings in one place.  I don't take this for granted.

This Sunday was nothing different.  We ate lunch on the front porch and enjoyed conversation together.  Slowly, but surely, we began to lose family members to going inside and taking a nap on the couch.  We girls stayed on the porch and painted finger nails instead--such fun.

We celebrated Memorial Day, by having my whole family (including siblings and grandparents [which all live within two miles of us]), an uncle, an aunt, and some neighbors.  We had a yummy barbecue out on the porch and enjoyed each other's company.  As it began to get dark my Dad built a fire.  This was a personal request by me because I love campfires, and try to take every opportunity I can get.  Both sets of grandparents joined us out by the fire, as well as my uncle.

Tuesday evening, my grandparents treated my sis and I to a meal out at one of my favorite restaurants, Panera Bread.  We had a wonderful time catching up with them and celebrating my sister making it into the National Honor Society.

Today has been a rather relaxing day.  I realized I missed the due date to turning in my supply list needed for VBS for the month of June, so it looks like I will be doing inexpensive crafts.  Working on preparing for VBS this summer has me so excited though.  I am ready to be back with my kiddos and to being Miss Rebekah (hearing the little voices say that truly makes my heart smile).  I have also been reading a book I brought home and have been meaning to read every since I got home, but am just now getting to it today.  It has brought up some great things for me to think about.

Lately, one of the biggest things pressing on my mind is how very much I love my sister.  What a wonderful young lady she is: smart, beautiful, athletic.  She is still diligently working on school, as she doesn't finish until the middle of next month.  She has a busy summer ahead of her, but I have no doubt that she will do very well.  Little Sis, keep seeking after the Lord with your whole heart.  I love you so very much!
