Music Match Bulletin Board

This has been a crazy week, especially considering it is only the third week of classes.  My weekend was swamped in getting projects ready for Monday, and then the bio test on Tuesday.  Sadly, Thursday's projects didn't get much further then thought before Tuesday afternoon.  Teaching music is a two credit class that only meets once a week, for one hour...therefore there is a lot of work to do individually.  This week I had the privilege of having a bulletin board due on top of everything else.  Here is how the bulletin board turned out...

The stars are labels, and you take the string attached to the star and attach it to the part of music it accurately labels!

I still have a good bit to do today, and the next few weeks (as far as I have looked), are still fairly busy, but that is college.  The semester is going well.  I can't help but just be amazed with how God is using me, and all that He is teaching me.  I hope you take a few minutes to be amazed at what God is using you for!

Jesus, You're All to Us

by: Chris Tomlin

Precious cornerstone, sure foundation
You are faithful to the end
We are waiting, on You, Jesus
We believe You're all to us

Let the glory of Your name be the passion of the Church
Let the righteousness of God be a holy flame that burns
Let the saving love of Christ be the measure of our lives
We believe You're all to us

Only Son of God sent from Heaven
Hope and mercy at the cross
You are everything, You're the Promise
Jesus, You are all to us

You're all to us
You're all to us
You're all to us
Yes, You are

When this passing world is over
We will see You face to face
And forever we will worship
Jesus, You are all to us

Obituary

Obituary of the
Pillsbury Doughboy

Please join me in remembering a great icon. Veteran Pillsbury spokesperson, The Pillsbury Doughboy, died yesterday of a severe yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes to the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a slightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out, including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, Captain Crunch and many others.

The graveside was piled high with flours as long-time friend, Aunt Jemima, delivered the eulogy, describing Doughboy as a man who "never knew how much he was kneaded."

Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, even as a crusty old man, he was still considered a roll model for millions.

Toward the end it was thought he'd raise once again, but he was no tart.

Doughboy is survived by his second wife, Play Dough. They have two children and one in the oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

Set-Apart Feminity

I am currently reading Leslie Ludy's book Set-Apart Femininity.  The Lord really used Leslie's writing in this book to dramatically change my life.  She doesn't say anything new or profound that I have never heard before, but it is stuff I have known my entire life, and am just now reading and willing to listen and apply.  I am growing more and more to love conviction.  Do I love it at the moment? yes and no.  It is uncomfortable and embarrassing truth be told (I know God already knew about it, but I am embarrassed by how often I mess up and that He, the King of Kings sees it and I have to confess it and tell Him about it), but it is proof that I am alive.  It is God's loving touch saying "uhh, you are doing this all wrong, you need to change it".  Sometimes I feel so stupid in my spiritual life, that I need that conviction to tell me what is right or wrong.  And sometimes I feel I need that conviction or else I wouldn't change, sad I know.  Lately He has been giving me the strength too to change when I am convicted, something else I have struggled with.

One of the prominent points Leslie makes throughout her book is the idea of being selfless, dying to self.  I already can tell this is a huge 2012 lesson I will be learning.  Now this is not an invitation for you to try and teach me selflessness.  I don't think I could handle it.  God is doing a great job at challenging me and prodding me in this area.  I realized over the summer just how selfish of a person I was, and just now I am allowing God to show me how to fix that.  I know it will be a long process.  I ask for your prayer as I make this journey with God carrying me.  Working on making this change in my life has proven yet again how weak I am.  It is He who carries me through these lessons, and really, through life.  I am so thankful that He is merciful and shows patience towards me as I try and learn these essential life lessons.

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. -Luke 9:23

a few pics from the break....

Here are just a few pictures that my mom passed on to me (therefore all photo credit on this blog entry to go to my beautiful mother).

Christmas Eve, Scott slept at home and he went to bed early, so we sisters were left with no other choice but to torture him!

This is what I opened for the Yankee Swap...nice, huh?

I was pretty happy to have my Uncle with us!

Sarah acting something out on New Year's Eve!

All of the cousins on my mom's side, except my cousin Steve and his wife Kristen.

He hadn't shaved his head in a day or so, and it was like sand paper...mom wanted to know how rough it would be on a cotton ball.

Goodbyes are hard, so you have to do something fun!

...an end

Well, my Christmas break has come to an end.  I leave tomorrow morning at 5:30 am.  I can’t complain though because a friend’s mom will be driving her and I down, and my parents only have to drive 1.5 hours to meet up with them.  My personal preference is that I would rather leave early, and get there early, rather than being able to sleep in a little bit and getting in super late.  My semester will start Wednesday morning at 9:00 am, so I will not want to be getting in too very late.  Tomorrow will be a very long day in the car though.  I am often amazed by God’s timing and the reality of “for everything there is a season/time”.  The time for break has been so good, but I am now ready and eager to get back to school.

This upcoming semester looks to be a good one.  I have some great classes, and many observation hours (which means practical experience, which I love).  My classes for this upcoming semester include: Teaching Mathematics, Ministries for Women, Biology, Doctrine 3, Impact 2, US History 2, Geography, and Teaching Music.  It is guaranteed to be a busy semester (but isn’t every semester in college busy?) with lots of learning and growing.

This last week has been wonderful—relaxing yet productive.  Family left on Monday, and the four of us ladies went for a shopping trip (as previously mentioned).  We then enjoyed a family evening together.  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I spent a fair bit of time working on school work (also, as previously mentioned).  I covered some good ground on those two things.  Friday we made homemade pizza, and watched my niece.  I then went down to church to help with AWANA.

I am so glad that the Lord prompted me to go help—it was such a great time!  They were a bit short staffed, and I was therefore able to help out a bit.  I listened to verses for the Sparks (K-2nd) and was able to share Romans 3:23 with my young cousin.  I then helped with the red teams book time with my grandpa.  How fun to serve alongside my grandpa…Uncle Paul and Miss Rebekah.  I was able to specifically work with one girl who was un-churched and unfamiliar with the Bible.  It was her first time coming to AWANA and I pray she continues to come back.  It was such a fun night.

Once we all got home we enjoyed some frozen hot chocolate (about as it sounds…essentially hot chocolate sent through the blender with some ice and evaporated milk) as we watched Soul Surfer.  I had seen it this past semester with my friend, Melissa, but no one in my family had yet seen it.  If you have not yet seen it, I highly suggest it.  It is a great movie!

On Saturday I got up and made what Mom and I had meant to make over Thanksgiving break…Pumpkin Pull Apart Bread!  It was one of my first experiences with yeast, and took a very long time.  But let me tell you…it was well worth the time.  It was very sweet, but in moderation (which was hard) it was absolutely delicious.  It practically melted in your mouth!

Sarah and I then had the privilege of going on a date with my Grandpa and Grandma Meigs to the Panera that just opened near us.  We talked, ate, and laughed a whole bunch (especially when Grandpa [unbeknownst to him] almost ate an entire pepper…hot pepper).  I do believe that I made the best choice out of the four of us though.  I got chedder broccoli soup with a bacon turkey Panini (½ and ½).  We were all full to our heart’s content and our bellies were quite happy.  After a Wal-Mart run we came home to a fun evening with family friends.

Sunday was restful with my Ira church family, and an afternoon in front of the fire.  There was fellowship time after church where I was able to catch up with some dear church friends.  Once we got home I began working on school financial paperwork.  I then went to bed and got some good long sleep.
Today I have been getting a ton done including bathing the dog, cleaning the bathroom, several loads of laundry (not just mine), and baking pumpkin chocolate chip muffins.  This is probably the first break that I don’t feel super overstressed and overtired the last several days before I go back.  It is a wonderful feeling.  Tonight the dinner menu is quiche, and the visit to the grandparents is in store.  Looking forward to my last evening home before the early morning tomorrow to start the long trip back to school.

Happy New Year to you all!

break is nearing the end

Break is going well, and I am getting lots done.  My recent task has been my e-portfolio.  It is fun work though, so I enjoy it.  I have also been reading Set-Apart Femininity: God's Sacred Intent for Every Young Woman  (by: Leslie Ludy) for a class I plan to take next semester.  So far it has been a good conviction for me.  Trying to learn how to be selfless.  What I am learning is that it is much harder then I even know.  It will be a long journey of making the daily choice.

My mom's side of the family was up this past weekend.  My Uncle Dan is my mom's brother.  He is in the military and we are unable to see him often, so it was so good to see him.  He has always been one for surprises, and this year was no acception.  My Mom's sister and family had arrived and we were greeting them.  I walked upstairs and noticed my brother standing at the front door.  I then hear my sister crying and saw her hugging a man...I recognized who it was immediately.  I quickly ran over and joined the crying hug.  What an amazing surprise!  For New Year's Eve we played several games as a large family, and I believe I laughed harder then I ever have laughed before.

This week I have had to buckle down and get some productive work done.  Thankfully it has been fun work.  I enjoy working on my e-portfolio and the book has been very good.  I have also enjoyed doing some cleaning.  I leave to go back to school on Monday with a friend in New York.  Break is coming to an end, and I must get back to work...or go chase my niece who is climbing the stairs...
